An Auditory-perceptual Pitch Detection Method

چکیده

A new pitch detection method based on auditory-perceptual evidences has been proposed. As an auditory model, basilar membrane characteristics are approximated by using high Q pole and low Q zero pair filter with logarithmic frequency quantization. As the perceptual model distortion such as the missing fundamental problem and unvoiced segment interpolation problem are discussed. As a criterion function, harmonic structure evaluation function was used. An optimum pitch sequence is selected, using dynamic programming algorithm with continuity constraints, so as to maximize the sum of criterion value. Pitch detection experiments for Japanese utterances showed that the proposed method does not contain gross error and pitch data are interpolated smoothly in the unvoiced segment. These results show that the proposed auditory-perceptual model is effective and robust.

Human Echolocation in Static Situations: Auditory Models of Detection Thresholds for Distance, Pitch, Loudness and Timbre

We investigated, by using auditory models, how three perceptual parameters, loudness, pitch and sharpness, determine human echolocation. We used acoustic recordings from two previous studies, both from stationary situations, and their resulting perceptual data as input to our analysis. An initial analysis was on the room acoustics of the recordings. The parameters of interest were sound pressur...

Perceptual consequences of disrupted auditory nerve activity.

Perceptual consequences of disrupted auditory nerve activity were systematically studied in 21 subjects who had been clinically diagnosed with auditory neuropathy (AN), a recently defined disorder characterized by normal outer hair cell function but disrupted auditory nerve function. Neurological and electrophysical evidence suggests that disrupted auditory nerve activity is due to desynchroniz...

Functional role of auditory cortex in frequency processing and pitch perception.

Microelectrode studies in nonhuman primates and other mammals have demonstrated that many neurons in auditory cortex are excited by pure tone stimulation only when the tone's frequency lies within a narrow range of the audible spectrum. However, the effects of auditory cortex lesions in animals and humans have been interpreted as evidence against the notion that neuronal frequency selectivity i...

A sound advantage: Increased auditory capacity in autism

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) has an intriguing auditory processing profile. Individuals show enhanced pitch discrimination, yet often find seemingly innocuous sounds distressing. This study used two behavioural experiments to examine whether an increased capacity for processing sounds in ASD could underlie both the difficulties and enhanced abilities found in the auditory domain. Autistic and...
